Rap and hip-hop culture exploded out of New York in the 1980s thanks to the architects that built the genre, that is, Sugar Hill Records.

Sugar Hill was home to the first and most important rap records ever made. Gathered across this 2CD are 28 original recordings from Harlem, Brooklyn and The Bronx that changed the world forever. The legendary rap pioneers featured on this disc include Grandmanster Flash, The Sugarhill Gang, Spoonie Gee, Mellie Mel, Busy Bee, Crash Crew, West Street Mob plus many more. This set pays homage to the roots of hip-hop culture and all the original breakers, the b-boys, the fly b-girls, the Adidas superstars to twisted baseball caps, the graffiti tags that adorned the New York city subways and the euphoric all-night block parties.
